ORIGINS

Spacepuffs were not always the lovable, baby-faced trendsetters they are today? Originally, Spacepuffs were much, much different! In fact, you really couldn't even call their original form a Spacepuff at all!

In the beginning, Spacepuffs were goo-based creatures made up of stardust and other space gunk accumulating all together to create something resembling life. They were not intelligent creatures nor did they seem to have much of a purpose. But as time went on, these gooey amalgamations collected more matter to mix into their DNA, such as intelligent matter like microorganisms and other microscopic life! Because of this, Spacepuffs eventually developed a consciousness of their own, and began to... well, exist!

They fed on unwanted debris found on planets and stars and unintentionally moved asteroids about, clearing the orbits of other space beings! Over time they began to do more and more, growing and changing as they absorbed more matter until they were in charge of huge things in space, such as guiding shooting stars through the sky and making sure planets finished their orbits on time! They didn't have much else to do besides contributing to their ecosystem, but while at times it could get a bit mechanical, that was the life of these simple space carers!

But wait, you may think, they're still gooey and weird looking! Right you are! Spacepuffs' more iconic form was discovered much later, after humans had moved up from boring planet life to creating amazing gadgets and gizmos, and the one that specifically caught the Spacepuffs' attention, spaceships!

They remained as goo-based creatures through their evolution up until they had discovered the existence and ever-evolving culture of humans. It all began when the humans had begun to send out spacecrafts of their own into the great beyond in order to further their understanding of the galaxy they lived on. Being that Spacepuffs had become protectors and managers of space, a foreign object suddenly appearing was a huge deal! It was quick word of mouth between them to simply steer clear of the planet and not to interact with it in any way; there was no telling what dangers or threats that would be lurking on such a weird planet.

But of course, being the simple-minded creatures they were, Spacepuffs were terribly curious. Those who gathered enough nerve and visited the strange blue planet were awestruck at all the amazing technology! Not just that, but there were also these creatures, humans, that did more than just stare at the stars for hours on end: they did things! Games, movies, dance, song! Throughout all of their lives, the Spacepuffs have never come across a species in the galaxy that were so lively and colorful, and they oversaw an entire galaxy! They were inspired, enamored, blown away! This planet was amazing and they had to tell everyone and everything about it!!

While older Spacepuffs remained stuck in their ways, preforming only their duties and refusing to explore beyond them, many of the gooey blobs were drawn to the tall tales of the Big Blue and becoming fascinated by all it had to offer! With each passing visit, with each and every study, and with each loving observation, Spacepuffs began to mimic the humans they had come to adore. Slowly they had begun to learn how to morph their soft goo into the shape of bodies (though of course, the early attempts were not so much cute as they were a bit horrifying), and pretty soon they had picked up their cultures and traditions, even going so far as to bring them back out into space with them!

Through their endless love and curiosity, Spacepuffs had evolved and grown into how we know them today! What was once known as little blobs of spatial dust and debris could now (nearly) perfect and hold their human-esque forms, and while they certainly still perform their duties in space (because the galaxy isn't going to run itself, after all!), they also have a close connection to Earth culture and humans as a whole! Even to this day Spacepuffs are still amazed by humans, and many see Earth as a historical landmark that shaped their very existence!
